Before we move on to the process, we need to make sure that our Chrome version is at least v74. Because this feature only works with the v74 or later version of Chrome. To make sure of that, users need to navigate to the hamburger icon available on the extensions bar on Chrome. Now go to Help and click on About Chrome.

Setting Custom Background on New Tab Page
Now that you have made sure that the installed Chrome version is compatible with the feature of Custom Background. Its time you start processing of setting Custom Background on New Tab Page. For that, follow the easy steps provided below:
- First of all, open the new tab page on Chrome and click once on the Customize button. (see screenshot below)
- Now select Chrome Backgrounds. This way you will get the online backgrounds and theme wallpapers which are available in the Chrome library. Select one of them and hit the Done button. After you have set one as a background of your Chrome’s tab, you can also get information about the creator of the wallpaper.
- In case, you don’t feel like setting a custom Background via Google’s library. Not to worry, you can always upload your desired files from the disk storage of your device. For that, click on the customize button from the home page of Google. Now select Upload an image. Select your desired image and upload it to set as a new tab page background on Chrome.
- After all, that’s done, if you ever feel like getting the default background, again navigate to customize and select Restore default background.
